Dogs, cats and horses don't take direction from a stranger with a camera, so I don't ask them to. Studio character portraits on black, or a session on location with your horse, all built around patience rather than commands.
Studio sessions

A dog's personality rarely shows up on command, so the studio session is built around waiting rather than posing. Treats, a familiar person just out of frame, and enough time for the ears to come forward and the real expression to arrive. The black background does the rest, putting the whole portrait on your pet.
Cats come to the studio on their own terms too, arriving in a carrier they already know, with breaks whenever they need one.
On location
Wherever your pet is actually themselves.
Some animals are calmer at home than in a studio, so we bring the session to the paddock, the beach or the walking track they already know. A husky mid-run, a dog chasing a ball into the surf, a portrait that looks like your pet rather than a tidied-up version of them.
I direct rather than pose. If your dog only holds still for thirty seconds, we plan the whole session around that thirty seconds.
Equine
You and your horse, in the light that suits you both.
Equine sessions happen on location at your own property, timed around the golden light of early morning or late afternoon. We work with your horse's temperament rather than against it, and the portrait usually ends up being about the relationship between you both, not just the animal.
